Intertidal Wildlife Sweep Sunday 7th September

Steart Marshes Project – Breach of the River Parrett

As you are all aware the breach is fast approaching and in preparation  for the incoming tide we need to sweep the entire intertidal area, working from North to South. This is to ensure we flush out as many animals as we can before the sea spills up over the main creek into the surrounding fields.

We are hoping to do the sweep with as many local residents that are keen to get involved.

The process will involve two separate groups, one working on the North side of the creek and the other working on the South side moving from the breach end towards the main car park. We will be meeting on Sunday 7th September at the WWT Steart Marshes main car park at 10.30 for a debrief, health & safety and method talk hoping to start at 11.00 when the two groups will separate.

The whole process is likely to take a few hours so it is recommended that you bring suitable clothing for the day, water and some nibbles if like me you get hungry on a regular basis!!!! We also need you to come equipped for flushing out wildlife, be it dogs, noisy children, sticks, whistles……feel free to be as imaginative as you like on the understanding that dynamite and guns are a no no!!

Afterwards there is a community barbecue planned to say thank you, more details from the Environment Agency will follow shortly. If you’re able to let me know if you can help out that’d be massively appreciated.

Many thanks
